In 2022, Bureau of Land Management (BLM) conducted a population survey of the White Mountain Herd Management Area (HMA) and found 549 horses. Using the agency’s unscientific population growth model, the BLM estimates there are now 791 horses in an area encompassing 393,000 acres. The Artificial Management Level (AML) for White Mountain is set at 205-300 horses and the agency wants to remove 586 horses to bring the population down to just 205. Meanwhile, the agency permits the equivalent of 1,500 year-round cows in the same area!
If this infuriates you as much as it infuriates us, please take quick action below.
The Bureau of Land Management Rock Springs Field Office initiated a 30-day public review of a Determination of NEPA Adequacy (DNA) for a proposed wild horse roundup in the White Mountain Herd Management Area.
