Loxahatchee Groves, FL (March 19, 2024) – W. Tonix Hero and John Angus answered the call this past week, galloping to the win in both of The Ridge’s highly contested money classes, the $5,000 1.30m Rising Star Classic and $15,000 1.40m Grand Prix. Filling the void left by Mark and Daniel Bluman, who started The Ridge’s March Madness excitement with consistent, back-to-back wins, a new group of riders put their best hoof forward to rack up points towards this year’s Grand Prize: a private, 2-hour flight to anywhere, compliments of Verijet.
On Wednesday, Angus jumped two horses in his very first rounds at The Ridge, proving quickly that the international sized Grand Prix ring and course set by Juan de Dios Alvarez agreed with him. He and W. Tonix Hero, a bay KWPN gelding owned by Stephanie E Angus, charged around the welcoming 1.30m Classic course without a single rail, jumping off in 33.510 for the win. Ashlee Bond and Tangassini were just under a second behind with a time of 34.448. Steven Bluman and Legend notched the top three, a few tenths of a second behind Bond with a time of 34.641.
Angus set about repeating his feat on Friday, where the $15,000 1.40m Grand Prix presented a more technical challenge. A few of the more testing lines included a double set of oxers – vertical in and outs and a bending line triple bar to a skinny to an oxer. In a class of 20 starters, 9 made it to the jump-off, while only two managed a double clear effort. Angus and W. Tonix Hero put up an even 40.000 on the jump-off timers to win the class, with Ashlee Bond once again in second, this time on Night Wish and in 42.820. Katie Eppinger and Chaccos Cherry PS were the fastest of the 4-fault jump-off rounds, ending on 42.021 seconds.
On March 16th, The Ridge hosted its monthly Saturday Unrated show with hunters, jumpers, and equitation riders enjoying everything from Crossrails and High Jumpers in the Grand Prix ring and a $500 Hunter Derby in Ring 2.
Jennifer Papiernick and HH Nutella returned for their second Hunter Derby this year at The Ridge, boasting a jumping style and performance to win the class out of 16 combinations.
