Update from Wild Horse Fire Brigade

Last Updated on July 2, 2025 by adminahb

There are many exciting projects underway this year at Wild Horse Fire Brigade, thanks to the generosity of our donors.

We don’t like to talk about the cuisine until it’s served, and while some projects are still ‘in the oven’ so to speak, soon there will be some very exciting news!

And we have a lot that’s currently bubbling over.

Edutainment Outreach to the Public is one way of reaching mainstream America with the news (good and bad) about America’s relatively few remaining genetically intact iconic wild horses.

We have produced over 300 short informational YouTube videos that show a lot about our programs, our unique herd of wild horses, and much more! HERE: https://www.youtube.com/@wildhorsefirebrigade2191

In order to accomplish this, we have to work very hard and think outside the box, since we cannot afford to spend hundreds of thousands annually on a ‘media agent’ like some Big Dollar nonprofits (read IRS 990s for the BIG Dollar Orgs — EYE OPENER).

So we have to constantly send queries to the reporters we know, giving interviews to media, and helping producer/directors create accurate informational documentaries about wild horses, especially our own genetically important Herd of 200 heritage horses.

Our Herd is now the largest naturally-living, genetically important herd of heritage wild horses left in California.  The other remaining herds are smaller, with many of those horses already sterilized (end of genetic flow) by wild horse nonprofits who, by their actions, are helping the BLM (some are paid using tax dollars) to eliminate wild horses from the American landscape for commercial reasons. Shockingly, these same wild horse nonprofits say they are ‘saving’ wild horses by sterilizing them and placing them into what are little more than large zoos for non-breeding wild horses. These people may need a review of what ‘Wild & Free’ means, and what the Preamble to the 1971 Act to protect wild horses says.

UPDATES:

1.  Horse of Nature has just won its 8th accolade by being named the  ‘BEST of FESTIVAL’ documentary at the Nature without Borders International Film Festival.

More about this on our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/OfficialWHFB/posts/pfbid02PjkdFPEgFZenAcTLh6tZEE4Yd1yWj84WRXTrAdYwMt47FpdMksiLJLkWx1o6o4ZJl

2. Education & Research: We are always engaged in learning from Our Herd of 200 free-roaming, naturally-living wild horses and their babies, in the wilderness of the Siskiyou mountains.

We are engaged in cooperative research with Calstate to gather quantitative data for published research, which can lead to a better understanding of wild horses and how we can provide intelligent, caring, and respectful oversight of our remaining wild horses.  That requires authentic knowledge and experience that can only be gained by living among and studying the wild ones for many years in their natural environment, or secondarily, learning from someone who has. We offer both to our students.

And after 11 years and over 20,000 hours of observational living and studying these wild sentient beings, we have a lot to share, and we are now sharing what we’ve learned with pre-qualified students from Calstate – Sacramento who enroll in the wilderness wild horse field study program, which we are calling the ‘Fellowship of the Wild Horses’ ™ (© 2025).

It is indeed a Fellowship program through California State University Environmental Sciences.

3.  Research Articles:  Some of our supporters and followers are scientists and others are serious advocates who are interested in the science and academics.  These articles, while boring for some, are critically important and establish facts about wild horses and how they help mitigate wildfires and deadly toxic smoke:

Wild Horse Fire Brigade is an all-volunteer IRS-accredited 501(c)3 nonprofit public benefit corporation. Your donations are what fund these and our many other programs, all designed to work synergistically to help SAVE America’s remaining genetically intact wild horses from extinction.
