Strzegom October Festival 2026 – Tom McEwen Takes the Lead after Cross-Country

Strzegom, 10 October 2026 — The third day of Strzegom October Festival brought plenty of sporting excitement on both the cross-country courses and show jumping arenas. At Morawa Hippodrome, riders from 22 countries battled for the best possible positions ahead of Sunday’s decisive competitions.

Cross-country – changes at the top after demanding courses

In the event’s highest-level class, CCI4*-L, Great Britain’s Tom McEwen and Brookfield Future News moved into the lead after Saturday’s cross-country phase with 31.0 penalties. McEwen, the reigning team world champion, completed the course clear of jumping penalties, adding just 1.2 time penalties to his dressage score. He now holds an impressive 12.8-penalty advantage heading into Sunday’s final show jumping phase. Germany’s Ben Leuwer and Zuccini MN are second on 43.8 penalties, followed by compatriot Nicolai Aldinger and Palm Beach in third on 45.3.

In the CCI3*-L, the highly accomplished Ingrid Klimke and Candy 851 moved into the lead after completing the cross-country course doble clear, maintaining their dressage score of 29.3. Nadine Marzahl and Viva L’Amour are second on 30.7, while Calvin Böckmann and Bubine P moved up to third on 31.5 penalties. All three leading combinations represent Germany, with just 2.2 penalties separating first and third place.

The cross-country phase also brought a change of leader in the CCIY3*-L Young Riders class. Germany’s Iliane Hannalisa Hein and Akeby’s Quemiro Silla moved into first place after a clear round, remaining on their dressage score of 28.2 penalties. Belgium’s Julie Geurts and Champagne Pia Z hold second place on 34.1, while Germany’s Mathies Rüder and Leila 377 climbed to third on 36.8 penalties.

The leaders have also been established ahead of the final phase in the other long-format classes. In the CCIP2*-L, the Netherlands’ Xanna Everaers and Zucchero lead the standings. Olympic champion Julia Krajewski and Ajana remain at the top of the CCI2*-L, while Germany’s Paul Suttorp and Dragonero RB lead the junior CCIJ2*-L.

Show jumping – the battle for the top positions continues

Saturday’s show jumping phase brought changes to the leading positions in the CCI4*-S. Germany’s Maj-Jonna Ziebell and Creed 5 held on to the lead with 28.8 penalties, but there were changes behind them. Nina Schultes and Grand Prix IWest moved into second place on 30.7, while Mathies Rüder and Hjoptimus climbed to third on 31.4 penalties. All three combinations jumped clear of obstacles, although the top two incurred time penalties.

In the CCI3*-S, Germany’s Antonia Baumgart and Lamango maintained their lead on 27.7 penalties. Fellow German rider Christoph Wahler and Steppke 25 remain second on 28.3, while Catharina Dannemann and Dzoker occupy third place on 31.8 penalties. All three combinations completed clear show jumping rounds within the time allowed, keeping their dressage scores unchanged.

In the CCI2*-S, Germany’s Malin Hansen-Hotopp and Datt Fliewatueuet remain in the lead, while Sven Lux and Kim La Sina continue to top the CCI1*-Intro standings.
