Loxahatchee Groves, FL (March 1, 2024) – The second evening Grand Prix of The Ridge at Wellington Groves’ 2024 Florida line-up went off on Friday, February 23rd, one of three chances to jump under the lights in their oversized Grand Prix ring this season. Over a course set by FEI Jaime Morillo, thirty combinations vied for $15,000 in prize money in the Prix, and all attendees enjoyed a delicious barbecue dinner in The Ridge’s lovely outdoor pavilion.

With multiple Olympians, top juniors, and competitive amateurs frequenting The Ridge this season, Friday’s Grand Prix was a comprehensive cross section of riders. Morillo’s 1.40m course rode with a welcoming flow but presented a number of challenges, including a skinny bike, triple combination, and lots of options to turn up the speed. Eight horses jumped clear in the first round to attempt the jump-off, with only three going double clear. Matthew Williams and Skyline Sporthorses LLC’s Luidam Quality were the quickest and most accurate, jumping off in 44.258 to win the class. Second went to German Carmago with Ophelia with a time of 46.142 seconds, and Katherine Dinan aboard Dijon Terdoom Z rounded out the top three with a time of 53.999.

As a precursor to the Grand Prix, The Ridge’s $5,000 1.30m Rising Star Classic is intended to give an international feel with its prize money, course, and jumps, but at a more welcoming 1.30m height. Ilan Bluman and Dutch Valley Sporthorses’ Cissy Van Maarle Z Dve jumped double clear and fast to win the Wednesday’s Rising Star, with Alexis Bodo aboard Select’s London Calling OLD and Lauren Esdale aboard Missy Van De Neerheide finishing second and third.
