Following his victories in the Rolex Grand Prix at The Dutch Masters and TSCHIO Aachen, Germany’s Richard Vogel will travel to the CSIO Spruce Meadows ‘Masters’ Tournament as the Rolex Grand Slam of Show Jumping live contender, with the opportunity to become only the second rider in history to claim the sport’s ultimate prize.
The Rolex Grand Slam of Show Jumping brings together four of the sport’s most prestigious Majors: The Dutch Masters, CHIO Aachen, the CSIO Spruce Meadows ‘Masters’ Tournament, and CHI Geneva. Defined by precision, consistency, and the ability to perform on the world’s greatest stages, the concept rewards the rider who can deliver three successive victories at the very highest level.
To win the Rolex Grand Slam of Show Jumping, a rider must claim three Majors in succession. This remains the defining rule of the concept. While the cycle now includes four Majors, a rider does not need to win all four to be crowned the Rolex Grand Slam of Show Jumping champion. A fourth consecutive Major victory carries its own additional reward, with a further €1 million bonus awarded to a rider who continues their winning streak beyond the three victories required to earn the Rolex Grand Slam title.
Having claimed the Rolex Grand Prix at The Dutch Masters in March, Vogel travelled to TSCHIO Aachen as the Rolex Grand Slam of Show Jumping live contender. In front of an electric home crowd, the German rider delivered when it mattered most, producing a superb performance aboard United Touch S to win the Rolex Grand Prix at one of the sport’s most iconic venues.
CSIO Spruce Meadows ‘Masters’ Highlight
From 9 to 13 September 2026, the CSIO Spruce Meadows ‘Masters’ Tournament returns to Calgary for the third Rolex Grand Slam of Show Jumping Major of the calendar year. Renowned for its unique atmosphere and world-class competition, the ‘Masters’ once again promises five days of elite sport and entertainment, bringing together the world’s leading horse and rider combinations alongside a programme of attractions for visitors of all ages.
The competition begins on Wednesday with the first of ten CSIO5* classes taking place in the International Ring, the TELUS Cup. Friday will see international rivalry take centre stage in the BMO Nations’ Cup, where nine nations will battle for team honours in one of show jumping’s most prestigious team competitions. Great Britain returns as defending champions and will be aiming to retain the coveted title against a world class field. Saturday’s programme includes the Tourmaline Oil Cup, offering riders a final opportunity to qualify for Sunday’s showpiece, the CPKC ‘International’ Grand Prix, presented by Rolex, and a chance to win a share of the CAD $5 million prize fund.
Entertainment remains at the forefront of the ‘Masters’ schedule with the TELUS Evening of the Horse on Friday, combining top level sport with a spectacular evening programme. The ATCO Electric Six Bar competition will kick off the excitement and will be followed by a fireworks display choreographed to a live musical performance by the Band of the Welsh Guards, providing a fitting celebration of tradition and pageantry.
CSIO Spruce Meadows ‘Masters’ Tournament 2026 – Rider Watch
As the third Major of the Rolex Grand Slam of Show Jumping calendar year, the CSIO Spruce Meadows ‘Masters’ Tournament will welcome an outstanding international field to Calgary from 9–13 September 2026. With riders representing 22 nations, including Olympic, World, and European Champions, Rolex Grand Slam Major winners, and many of the sport’s highest-ranked athletes, the iconic International Ring is set to host exceptional sport across the five days of action.
All eyes will be on Richard Vogel, who travels to Canada as the Rolex Grand Slam of Show Jumping live contender with history within reach. The German has claimed the opening two Majors of 2026, winning the Rolex Grand Prix at The Dutch Masters before securing a second consecutive victory at TSCHIO Aachen with United Touch S. Having since risen to World No. 1, Vogel will arrive at Spruce Meadows knowing that victory in Sunday’s CPKC ‘International’ Grand Prix would see him become only the second rider in history to complete the Rolex Grand Slam of Show Jumping.
The only rider to have achieved the feat, Scott Brash, completed his historic Rolex Grand Slam at Spruce Meadows in 2015. Eleven years later, Vogel will attempt to emulate that achievement in the same International Ring – with Brash himself among those hoping to deny him. The British rider, currently World No. 3, returns as defending champion after winning the 2025 CPKC ‘International’ Grand Prix with Hello Jefferson. His remarkable record in Calgary also includes victories in the class in 2015 and 2016, underlining his exceptional affinity with one of the most demanding arenas in the sport.
Vogel heads a formidable German contingent. Daniel Deusser, currently World No. 8, has his own outstanding record at Spruce Meadows, having won the CPKC ‘International’ Grand Prix in 2022, while reigning individual Olympic Champion Christian Kukuk adds further championship pedigree. Vogel, Deusser, and Sophie Hinners arrive in Calgary fresh from helping Germany claim team gold at the FEI Jumping World Championships in Aachen last month.
